What a Downpipe Actually Does
A downpipe connects the turbocharger's exhaust housing to the rest of your exhaust system. On a turbocharged engine, exhaust gases spin the turbine before exiting, and the downpipe is the first section of pipe those gases travel through after the turbo. Because it sits in that critical position, its design has an outsized effect on how the whole system performs.
The factory downpipe is built with emissions and cost in mind, which usually means a restrictive catalytic converter and tighter bends. An aftermarket downpipe opens that up. By reducing backpressure right at the turbo outlet, a high-flow downpipe lets the turbo spool faster and helps the engine make more power.
When paired with a full exhaust and muffler upgrade, the gains and the change in sound become even more noticeable. On many platforms, a downpipe is the single biggest bang-for-buck exhaust modification you can do.
I thought I had a good mechanic but John really showed up and showed out! Excellent work, detailed information and explanations, and he even helped me with some preventative maintenance to keep me from having to come back! Hes so helpful and nice, as well as the office assistant and the prices are very good. My dad sent me here and now i refuse to go anywhere else. Thanks John!
John did an amazing job on my breaks! I last minute called him after work and it was 5 minutes from me. He was able to take me the same day and finished within 20 minutes! He literally saved me, I will be going to him again. Very nice customer service as well.
A great mechanic! John helped get my car back on the road after my hybrid battery died in less than one week. He was very helpful, transparent, and fair with everything that needed to be fixed.
